Yoga on Country - Crowdfunding

What we are asking for and why?

We have built Ngungwulah Aboriginal Corporation (ICN 9263) to provide jobs, opportunities and a stronger voice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the wellness industry.

On June 21st 2021 for International Yoga Day at Cunjurong Point on the NSW South Coast, our first undertaking is to Launch the Reconciliation/Reciprocity Plan (RAP) for all yogis across Australia.

We will bring our 12 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Yarn Circle members, click here to be introduced together with yoga community from across the country to launch and bring to fruition this RAP.

This event will be inclusive and broadcasted out to yoga, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia.

Together we will strengthen and contribute to the national conversation about healing hearts, Caring for Country and moving towards a positive unified future.

Culture Community Country

Where we are headed

The deep understanding of presence, listening, respect, community, oneness with Country and the strong yoking of body, Country (mind) and spirit inherent in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ way of life, and fundamental to survival of this oldest living culture on the planet, is of deep relevance to yoga practitioners.

Specific practices currently being brought to wider attention include, but are in no way limited to, mindfulness practices such as Dadirri, Yama considerations such as Kanyini, Asana practices such as Wayapa Wuurk and trauma relief practices such as We-Al-li.

By respectful listening and learning, yoga teachers and community are in a position to positively affect the gradient of respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and in this way contribute to reconciliation in this country.

Organiser statement

Just a great big hug and thanks for lending your presence, your time and your monetary contributions to the Yoga Australia RAP Launch event . We couldn't have pulled it together without all the work and love that went into the day. It is clear that together we have managed to make a splash and the ripples have been felt throughout the yoga community across the country. We hope that the focus in the Australian yoga community will remain now, firmly on establishing a culture of respect and listening up to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Please take the time to watch the beautiful video produced by Campbell Wilson of Present Media and his team on the day. The video appears both on Facebook and on our Instagram. We'd love you to share this out to your communities and will be producing a shortened highlight video in the next few weeks which we will send on to you. https://www.facebook.com/ngungwulah https://www.instagram.com/ngungwulah We received over $5,000 in donations which allowed the Yaan Circle to attend this event. Ticket sales for the launch in addition to the commission on Eve and Jem's Cultural Awareness Training allowed us to make payments towards the video production, upcoming podcast and website as we build this story.
