Newcastle Marathon & Half-Marathon

Your favourite netballers are hanging up the bibs and tightening the shoelaces to complete a marathon or half marathon on the 11th of April.

The cause

To make this feat worth the pain and injuries (there’s already been plenty), we're raising money for the Coral Sea Foundation's Sea Women of Melanesia program.
Combining an ethos of science, gender equity and sustainability, the Foundation works with traditional owners in Melanesia to develop marine reserves that enhance fisheries and protect biodiversity, while delivering humanitarian aid to improve the basic quality of life partner villages.
The program empowers indigenous women with scuba diving and marine science skills, helping them take an active role in creating and monitoring marine protected areas on their own coral reefs.

With fish being the primary protein source for Melanesian villages, and sources depleting rapidly due to overfishing and climate change, this program is essential in ensuring these villages can continue to survive.
