HOPE for better mental health recovery pathways

This campaign is being run in aid of Establishing the FIRST MindFx Centre
What we are asking for and why?

Sometimes life just throws you challenges that you didn’t even know you could handle.

For us, it’s been the experience of supporting our daughter in managing her diagnosis of bipolar at aged 18. Together we’ve seen the acute mental health system (public and private), the trauma of police intervention, ECT (yes, still a treatment), and together we’ve been on a six-year emotional rollercoaster of grief, shame, blame, judgement, denial, loss, fear, hopelessness, acceptance and now hope… but always love.

We’ve seen a side of life that we never thought we would – where abuse, fear, drug misuse, unemployment, police, prison, suicide and homelessness rule – and mostly related to those with no real support for their mental illness.

And we’ve been blessed to meet some amazing and inspirational people who have helped us on the journey to create MindFx to support better diagnosis and recovery pathways. We believe that we’ve been given this challenge to be able to give back to others, and to create experiences for young adults and their carers that truly help them to move from chaos to management and to leverage their experiences and talents to find their true purpose in life.

Whilst we believe that government funding will ultimately support these services, we need your help now to establish this first centre as a pilot. Once the model is proven, we plan to replicate and scale it across Australia to give a hand up to some of the 500,000 young people currently living with a mental health condition – and their carers.

About MindFx

MindFx aims to be the leader in providing holistic solutions, supporting young adults (and their carers) to learn how to best manage their diagnosis, taking a holistic and strengths-based approach to developing individualised recovery programs, whilst also providing the young adult with opportunities to earn through working part-time in the on-site social enterprises. Your contribution will help us operationalise the very first MindFx centre, helping vulnerable young adults to access Better Recovery Pathways.

Overall MindFx is raising $250,000 to secure a commercial lease over the first MindFx Centre in Brisbane, engage a core team of professionals including Mental Health Coaches, Admissions and Support to provide Better Recovery Pathways for young adults with challenging mental illness.
